Festive Season Policing Operations – Alice Springs

Police

Alcohol related crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and drink driving will be at the forefront of Police operations in Alice Springs over the festive season.

Officers from the Southern Command will be involved in a number of targeted operations, with the first, Operation Thresher, commencing tomorrow.

This operation targets anti-social behaviour and property crime, which regrettably, tends to increase during the school holiday period.

“As part of this operation, we are asking all parents and guardians to know and check where their children are.”

“The welfare of youth is paramount as was recently highlighted in the Alice Springs Community Action Plan,” said Supt Murphy.

Southern Command Police will also have more than 20 extra Police Officers from Darwin as part of Operation Shiloh.

“This Territory wide operation supports the existing Operation Thresher and is designed to disrupt and abate crime and social order issues by targeting known offenders,” said Supt Murphy.

Alice Springs Police will also be heavily involved in two national alcohol-related campaigns.

Operation Unite, running this weekend, targets alcohol fuelled anti social behaviour and violence.

A National Christmas road safety operation will also commence later this month to add to our existing Territory Christmas Campaign which commenced last week.

“We will be working with a range of agencies to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime, recognising the need to address broader social issues if Policing Operations are to be effective in the longer term.

“The community is our eyes and ears and Police continue seek public assistance to work together to prevent and disrupt anti-social and criminal activity.

“All suspicious behaviour, anti-social and criminal behaviour including drink drivers should be reported to Police on 131 444,” Supt Murphy concluded.
