Fatality -Erldunda

Police

The Territory road toll has risen to 32 after the second fatality in less than two hours.

Police received a report just before 4pm this afternoon  that a vehicle had rolled on the Stuart Highway 24 kilometres north of Erldunda.

Sergeant Paula Dooley-McDonnell said Kulgera police attended the crash and found a Nissan Patrol  which had rolled after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The male driver of the vehicle died at the scene and his male passenger sustained minor injuries. Members of the Major Crash Unit from Alice Springs are investigating.

The death followed an earlier fatality near Katherine in which a 44-year-old man died in a single vehicle crash just after 2.30pm today.

Sgt Dooley- McDonnell said the two tragedies should provide a stark warning for drivers to stay alert when driving long distances and ensure they take frequent breaks.

The Territory Road toll now stands at 32 compared to 37 for the same period last year.
