Fatal Vehicle Crash – Palmerston - Update

Police

Temple Terrace between Baldwin Drive and Kafcaloudes Crescent is now open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. NT Police would like to thank members of the public and local residents for their patience during the road closure.

Major Crash Investigation Unit is continuing with its investigations into the fatal crash.

Police received a report of a crash involving a Holden Commodore at approximately 1:41 am on Temple Terrace in Moulden.

Initial investigations indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle when negotiating a bend while travelling along Temple Terrace towards Chung Wah Terrace. It appears the vehicle then hit two light poles, struck a tree and rolled a number of times before coming to a stop on its roof approximately 250 metres down the road.

Police believe that speed may be a contributing factor to the crash.

Fire and Rescue members attended the scene to extract persons from the vehicle.

A 14-year-old boy has died has a result as a crash. The four remaining passengers and driver were been taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance.

The 19-year-old male driver is currently in police custody and is expected to be interviewed about the matter.

Major Crash Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone in the area around the time of the accident to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

This now brings the Northern Territory road toll to 3, compared to 10 for the same period last year.
