Police and Northern Territory Fire Investigators are currently investigating a fatal explosion that destroyed a vehicle at a home in Parap this morning.
Northern Territory Fire and Rescue crews attended the home in Hudson Fysh Avenue at approximately 0630 am this morning, after receiving reports of an explosion.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Henrys said an exclusion zone has been established while investigators determine the cause of the explosion.
“It is believed a young male employed in the Darwin area was attempting make ready a work van with gas bottles stored in rear load space.
“It appears that gas has been ignited, causing an explosion that killed the man, destroyed the vehicle and caused damage to the home.
“Forensic Investigators, Territory Response Group, Fire Investigators, Crime Command, Northern Territory Emergency Services and Worksafe are currently at the scene.
“Police anticipate road closures for the rest of the day, and ask the public to heed all traffic direction.”
