Fatal Crash/Major Structure Fire - Darwin

Northern Territory Police, NT Fire and Rescue Services and St John Ambulance were called to attend a structure fire at around 7.30am this morning after reports of black smoke coming from the roof of a cold storage warehouse on Wishart Road, Berrimah.

On arrival they found the warehouse well alight and an additional fire fighting appliance was called in from the Darwin Airport Fire Fighting Service.

While en route to the fire this appliance has been involved in a collision with a utility at the intersection of Berrimah Road and Tiger Brennan Drive.

Despite the best efforts of emergency workers who were quickly on location, a male and a female who were passengers in the utility have tragically died at the scene.

A third man, believed to be the driver, remains in a critical condition in the Royal Darwin Hospital.  A fourth person from the utility has escaped with minor injuries.

The Crash remains under investigation with police from the Major Crash Unit, Major Crime Detectives and the Coronial Investigation Unit on the scene,

The intersection of Berrimah Road and Tiger Brennan Drive at the crash scene remains closed and is expected to be for some time.  Motorists are requested to take an alternative route.

Wishart Road also remains closed due to the continuing fire situation there.
