Fatal Crash – Marrakai

Police

Police advise that a man has died as a result of a crash that occurred in Marrakai this morning.

It appears that at around 7:30am a man was travelling along the Arnhem Highway 10kms east of the Adelaide River Bridge when the truck he was travelling in left the road and hit a number of trees.

The man was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath of Darwin Traffic Operations said this is yet another tragedy that could have been avoided.

“After five people dying on our roads in under a week, three of those within 24 hours, Police plead with all road users to use extreme care at all times whilst on or near Territory roads,” said Acting Senior Sergeant Heath.

The outbound lane of the Arnhem Highway will remain closed until after midday. Police advise that delays will occur and ask people to avoid the area if possible.

This now takes the NT road toll to 19 compared to 21 for the same period last year.
