Police can confirm that the fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon on the Arnhem Highway was a 65-year-old Queensland woman.

Police can confirm that the fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon on the Arnhem Highway was a 65-year-old Queensland woman.

The crash was reported to Police at around 2:30pm and occurred at the intersection of the Halkitis Brothers quarry, approximately 36kms east of the Adelaide River Crossing.

Police investigations indicate that a vehicle heading inbound towards Darwin drove over a rock which continued to tumble out from underneath the vehicle. The rock has then flicked back up off the ground and impacted with the passenger side windscreen of the 4WD, that was travelling outbound towards Wildman River Ranger Station.

The rock was approximately 23cm long by 13cm high.

Members of the public and workers at the nearby quarry provided first aid until St John Ambulance arrived.

The 66-year-old male driver was not injured. The 65-year-old female passenger died as a result of her injuries.
