Drunk Driver -Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs were appalled to find a 44-year-old man driving with a blood alcohol level of .179 per cent just after 8 o’clock this morning.

Senior Constable Wayne Burnett  from the Southern Traffic Unit said police pulled the man over for a random breath test whilst he was driving near a school in Alice Springs.

“The man was driving his Mitsubishi Magna along the driveway leading to the school, and whilst he continued past the school turnoff,  it was still worrying that he was driving intoxicated among so many cars carrying children,” Sen Const Burnett said.

“He was arrested and found to be driving with a blood alcohol level of .179 per cent.  He was also found to be a disqualified driver with 18  previous convictions for drink driving.  He has also been convicted of driving disqualified on seven previous occasions and has also had 11 convictions for driving unlicensed.

“This is a prime example of the need for other motorists to be aware that this man, or someone like him, could be sharing the road with them at any time. This is why we will continue to remain vigilant in maintaining a breath-testing presence on our roads.”

The man is expected to be charged later today.
