Drug and Firearm charges - Palmerston

NT Police have arrested a 56-year-old man in relation to drug and firearms offences in Palmerston yesterday.

Members of the Nightcliff Police Beat executed a search warrant at the Gray residence with members locating a hydroponics set up hidden in a down stairs storage area.

After an extensive search, members located:

716.5 grams of cannabis
Hydroponics equipment
Drug paraphernalia
1 x Side by side double barrel shot gun
An amount of cash
1 x cannabis plant

The man has been charged with:

Possess cannabis in commercial quantity
Cultivate cannabis in commercial quantity
Supply schedule 2 substance commercial quantity
Possess article to manufacture drug
Receive property commission of offence
Possess unregistered firearm
Fail to meet storage requirements
Possess ammunition without licence/permit

The 56-year-old man was remanded in custody and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.

Senior Constable Lucas McAuley said it is a great outcome for police to know these drugs didn't get the chance to hit our streets.

"The cannabis has an estimated street value of $21,495.00 if it had been sold on our streets.

"NT Police will continue to target the supply of drugs in the Darwin region and anyone with information about drugs is asked to call Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, you can remain anonymous," he said.
