Drink Drivers Caught Overnight

Police

NT Police remain concerned about the high numbers of drink drivers caught overnight in the Darwin area.

Commander of the Traffic Police, Kate Vanderlaan said the message from Police is very simple: "don't drink and drive".

"There were four drink drivers caught in the Darwin Region overnight, three of those had over 0.08% blood alcohol reading.

"The highest reading was 0.130, a 20 year old male driver in Gunn, Palmerston.

"If people do the right thing and share our roads responsibly, then there is no problem.

"Drink drivers will not be tolerated, the penalties are fixed as determined by the blood alcohol reading of the driver.

"If drivers are stupid enough to get behind the wheel so drunk that their blood alcohol reading carries an immediate suspension, Police will have additional powers as of 01 July to also issue them with an alcohol banning notice.

"Both high range drink drivers and repeat drink drivers will receive an alcohol banning notice from Police as of 01 July.

"Again, the message is clear and simple, share our roads responsibly, don't drink and drive". Commander Vanderlaan said.
