Sergeant Conan Robertson said police were appalled at the number of drink drivers caught over such a short period of time.

"Obviously the idea of having sober drivers is being lost on these individuals and of even more concern is that they value their lives and the lives of others at even less than a cab fare," Sgt Robertson said.

"Our road toll currently stands at two compared to seven for the same period last year, but with this kind of stupidity and recklessness it is only a matter of time before more lives are lost in car crashes on the roads."
