Disturbance - Yarrawonga

Police

NT Police responded to several disturbances at a business on Toupein Road last night, where a company Christmas party was taking place.

Northern Watch Commander, Louise Jorgensen said that more than 200 people were in attendance at the party which was not registered with Police.

“During the course of the night Police responded to several disturbances that included a 21-year-old security guard being punched by unknown male while being ejected and a further two people being assaulted and taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital as a result.

“The party was closed down just before 11:30pm. Approximately 200 people were moved on and 30 litres of alcohol that was in possession of people on the street was destroyed.

“There were a lot of people in attendance on this occasion and an abundance of alcohol available. The organisers did hire security for the party but questionable whether there was enough security in place for the amount of people attending.

“If you intend to hold a party for a large number of people then you need to take responsibility, ensure there is a responsible service and consumption of alcohol, enough security or crowd control in place and register the function with Police.  The Safe Party initiative is not limited to teenage events.  In this case, Police are disappointed that the company allowed the function to proceed as it did,” said Northern Watch Commander Jorgensen.
