Crocodile Attack - Milingimbi - Update

Police

Police are continuing the search for a 14-year-old boy who went missing at Milingimbi yesterday.

The boy was swimming in a creek when he is believed to have been bitten by a crocodile before being swept away by strong tidal currents and has not been seen since.

Eight members from the Territory Response Group and two Major Crime detectives travelled from Darwin to the community yesterday.

TRG members, Ramingining Police and NT Parks and Wildlife Rangers searched for the boy throughout the night, conducting land and water patrols of the area and are continuing the search and rescue effort today.

Police will conduct aerial patrols with the use of a helicopter of the bay which the creek flow into and surrounding islands.

Superintendent Helen Braam said police and locals were working hard to locate the boy.

"Community members have been extremely helpful despite their grief and what have been very trying conditions".

"The NT Police are very grateful for their assistance in providing boats and other resources to the search teams" she said.
