Crash on Tiger Brennan Drive - Darwin

Police

A man was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition this morning after a two vehicle crash in Darwin.

Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath said the crash involving a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Hilux occurred shortly before 8:00 am on Tiger Brennan Drive.

“Initial investigations indicate the Toyota Hilux was travelling inbound when it veered into the path oncoming traffic and collided with the Toyota Camry.

“As a result of the crash, the driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries and the driver of the Hilux suffered critical injuries. Both drivers were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance.

“The cause of the crash is undetermined at this early stage but initial indications indicate the crash was due to driver error.

“Drivers need to really slow down and drive to the conditions in the wet. Drive to the conditions of the road as the characteristics of the road and your vehicle change in wet conditions.

“It is important to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy. Make sure your tyres have sufficient tread, wiper blades are serviceable and the vehicle’s brakes work correctly.

“Make sure you allow a gap of at least four seconds between your car and the car in front. Be patient, show courtesy and respect to yourself and other road users in dangerous conditions,” said Senior Sergeant Heath.

Tiger Brennan Drive between Charles Darwin and Bayview was closed off to traffic for most of the morning and was re-opened shortly before midday. NT Police thank motorists for their patience during this time.

There is no further information and investigations are continuing.
