Crash and Beacon Activation – Alice Springs

Police

Police in and around Alice Springs as well as other agencies were kept busy last night after receiving notification of a beacon activation.

It appears that a 53-year-old female had been travelling alone in a Toyota Prado between Lake Nash Community and Ampilatwatja Community at around 6:30 pm when the vehicle rolled.

She subsequently set off her personal locator beacon however due to it being registered in America, the signal was sent through to the United States.

Local Police soon received information suggesting that a personal locator had been activated

She was located at approximately 11:00 pm and conveyed to the Ampilatwatja Health Clinic, having sustained what is believed to be minor injuries.

Police commend the fact that the woman had the device with her whilst travelling; however urge anyone that may take on any travel within remote areas of Australia, to have locally registered/purchased beacons.
