Charges over stabbing - Palmerston

NT Police have charged a 28-year-old man in relation to the stabbing of a 35-year-old man in Palmerston yesterday.

Police received the report at approximately 11:42 am and arrived at the scene in under a minute.

It is alleged the offender was inside the Palmerston Shopping Centre when he approached the victim and engaged in a verbal argument.

The verbal argument escalated into a fight between the two men. It is alleged that during the fight, the offender produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest.

The 28-year-old offender has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm and possess/carry/use a controlled weapon.

The 35-year-old victim remains in the Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board praised the quick actions of the Palmerston Shopping Centre Security Guards and Palmerston Police Beat Officers.

“The quick arrival of Police and Security Guards resulted in the immediate arrest of the offender.

“The assistance provided to the victim from nearby staff should also be commended.

 “We would still like to speak to any witnesses that observed the fight and encourage them to contact Police on 131 444,” he said.
