Car crashes into house - Alice Springs

Police

A 40-year-old woman will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court after allegedly crashing her car into a house in Braitling on Saturday.

Sergeant  Conan Robertson said Police received a report  around 5pm on Saturday that a Ford Falcon sedan had crashed through a fence at a residence in Lulba Court.

“Witnesses told police the female driver then  tried to reverse back onto the road but accelerated instead, crashing into a house on the property and causing extensive structural damage.,” Sgt Robertson  said.

“The woman then grabbed a two- year-old child  from the front passenger seat where he had been sitting unrestrained when the crash occurred. The pair then left the area, however police arrested the woman in a nearby park a short time later. They were both taken to Alice Springs Hospital as a precaution.”

The woman was found to have been driving with a blood alcohol level of .126 per cent. She has been charged with:

  • Drive medium range blood alcohol content
  • Drive without due care
  • Fail to report a crash
  • Unrestrained child under 16 in the front seat
  • Drive disqualified

“It’s bad enough for anyone to drive with a blood alcohol level  of .126 per cent, but to then compound the offence by risking the life of a two-year-old just beggars belief,’’ Sgt Robertson said.

The woman has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court  today.
