Cannabis seized - Alice Springs

Alice Springs Police have summonsed a 47 year-old female after discovering eleven cannabis plants growing in pots on her back porch.

Police were called to a residence near Jay Creek on Larrapinta Drive just after midnight yesterday morning following a noise complaint.  Officers attending noticed the pots at the rear of the apartment and a search warrant was requested and granted.

Police will allege numerous small clip seal bags containing cannabis were also found in the search.  The offender has been charged with the possession of a trafficable amount of cannabis.

Acting superintendent Travis Wurst said it was a good piece of Policing from the initial call out.

“The seizure is as a consequence of vigilance by the general duties Police who first noticed the plants at the rear of the house.  It was great work and a significant find has resulted from this.”

On the same morning two youths aged 13 and 14 were caught after forcing their way into the Shell truckstop in Alice Springs to allegedly steal cigarettes.  An alarm was activated causing the pair to flee.

One of the offenders dropped his mobile phone while exiting the building and Police have tracked him down by tracing the owner of the phone.

His co – offender was captured a short time later when officers saw him riding his bicycle nearby.  The youth was also allegedly in possession of stolen cigarettes.
