Bus Exchange Assault - Palmerston

Police

A 45-year-old man has been charged over the assault of a 16-year-old boy at the Palmerston bus exchange yesterday.

A/Sergeant Paul Ranford said the man approached the youth who was waiting for a bus with a friend at 4:10 pm.

“The man allegedly harassed the youth for a short period of time to which the youth told the man to leave him alone. The man then punched the youth in the face.

“The man continued to harass the youth while he was trying to leave the area.

“Police arrived only minutes after receiving the report and arrested the man at the scene. He has since been charged with aggravated assault and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today

“This appears to be an unprovoked assault upon the youth who was just waiting for the bus with his friend. This type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by Police,” said A/Sergeant Ranford.
