Police

Fire Investigators from the Fire and Rescue Service have completed the examination of two boats destroyed by fire in Cullen Bay last month.

General Crime Section, Detective A/Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the cause of the fire that destroyed the ‘Sunchaser’ and ‘Off The Hook’ has been declared undetermined.

“Investigations have revealed that the fire started in the cabin of the ‘Sunchaser’ and then spread onto ‘Off The Hook’.

“As the ‘Sunchaser’ was completely destroyed by fire, the exact point of origin could not be established. If anyone has any information relating to the fires they are urged to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

On Friday 26 August, residents of Cullen Bay reported two boats engulfed in flames in the marina at about 1:02 am. Police, Fire and Rescue members, with the assistance of residents, dragged the boats towards the rocks near Marina Boulevard, allowing Fire and Rescue members to extinguish the blaze.

Approximately 25 local residents were evacuated from their home along Marina Boulevard due to heavy smoke.
