Attempted Abduction Update

Police

Continuing with investigations, members from the General Crime and the Sex Crimes Divisions have established that the alleged attempted abduction that was reported in Karama on Monday, was not as originally reported, and is in no way connected to any other similar incident which has occurred this week.

Detective Superintendent Richard Bryson of the Major Crime Division said that Police are continuing their investigations into two other reported incidents.

“The first of those incidents is that of a 13-year-old boy walking along Cunningham Crescent in Palmerston at around 5:20pm on Tuesday,” said Detective Superintendent Bryson.

“He was approached by a Caucasian male aged around 45 years, approximately 183cms tall and heavy of build. The male attempted to approach the boy however the boy did the right thing and fled the scene.

“The vehicle is described to be an older model navy blue Toyota Camry with dark wheel rims.

“The second incident Police continue to investigate is of an 11-year-old girl who was approached by two men in a vehicle in Gray on Wednesday. The vehicle is described as possibly a ‘Great Wall’ twin cab utility or wagon.

“Our members have spoken to the victim and witnesses and have now released a comfit image of the alleged offenders.

“The male who approached the girl is described as Caucasian, approximately 18 years of age, bald head with a ‘rat’s tail’, wearing a green shirt and jeans.

“The accompanying male who remained in the passenger seat of the vehicle is described as Caucasian, approximately 18 years of age, wearing sunglasses and a white shirt with a picture of late singer, Michael Jackson on it.

Anyone who has any information or saw persons acting suspiciously matching the descriptions and these locations is urged to contact Police immediately on 131 444  or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

There have been a number of reports made to police this week involving suspicious behaviour around children. Being National Child Protection week it is a good opportunity to remind parents to talk to their children and reinforce how to avoid danger and report incidents promptly to police.
