General Crime Detectives are investigating the assault and attempted stealing incident that occurred in Casuarina yesterday afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Pollock said a 21-year-old male was riding his bicycle along Trower Road when he stopped to check a text message on his phone at around 4:40 pm.

“Whilst leaning against the Motor Vehicle Registry fence he felt a tap on his shoulder,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Pollock.

“Upon turning around, the 21-year-old was punched to the face by a male described to be of Aboriginal appearance. He received numerous punches and kicks prior to the offender fleeing to a waiting vehicle, a silver/grey Ford Falcon XR6 utility.

“The victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with facial injuries and has since been discharged.”

Police urge anyone that may have witnessed the incident, or who may have any information relating to the assault, to contact Police on 131 444.
