A 14-year-old boy will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court next month after assaulting his teacher last week.

The boy is alleged to have assaulted a 60-year-old man after an altercation at Nightcliff Middle School on 22 March.

Witnesses alleged the youth punched the teacher to the face before producing a small pocket knife and slashing him to the arm, then stabbing him to the leg.

The victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries and the offender was immediately suspended from school.

Police have interviewed a number of witnesses and will continue investigations into the assault.

The youth will appear in court on April 19.
