A 25-year-old male is to appear in the Katherine Magistrate's Court today in relation to an assault that occurred last week.

On Wednesday evening it was reported to members that an intoxicated male had fled the scene of a domestic disturbance on Callistemon Drive in Katherine East. Police attended and chased the man on foot. He was apprehended on Maluka Drive.

It is alleged that the male began drinking in the Katherine town area before returning to his Callistemon Drive residence. An argument occurred between he and his 22-year-old wife, resulting in her receiving several wounds to her face and head believed to be both from a knife and a pair of scissors.

The male was charged with aggravated assault and breaching a domestic violence order and was remanded in custody to appear in the Katherine Magistrate's Court today.
