Assault and Robbery - Darwin City

A 20-year-old man remains in Royal Darwin Hospital after he was assaulted and robbed in Darwin City early Saturday morning.

The victim is believed to have been walking along the esplanade between 12:00 and 1:00am on Saturday when he was approached by an unknown male in the vicinity of the Holiday Inn. A brief conversation ensued before the offender punch the victim to the face causing him to fall to the ground and proceeded to kick him multiple times to the face before fleeing the scene. The victim's wallet containing an amount of cash and his mobile phone was stolen during the assault.

The victim then walked to Mitchell Street where he sat down and was located by a member of the public who called St John Ambulance. He was conveyed to RDH where he remains in a stable condition.

The offender is described as a male of Aboriginal appearance in his early 20s, with a round face, short hair and was wearing a black and white check shirt at the time of the incident.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify the alleged offender and are calling for anyone who witnessed the assault or who may have further details to contact them 131 444 or Crime Stopper 1800 333 000.
