Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault near Bloomfield Street on Friday night.

A 30-year-old woman told police she was walking along a dirt track between Espie and Bloomfield Streets at 11.45pm on Friday when she was approached by a man who allegedly pushed her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her. The woman struggled and yelled at the man who fled after she bit him.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the attack and noticed a man matching the appearance of the alleged offender. He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 170cm tall and about 25 years-old. He had a medium build and short dark hair and was wearing blue jeans, white skater-style shoes and a black or dark gray hooded jacket with a white emblem on the front.
