Police are investigating the assault of a male Prison Officer that occurred at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre today.

Detective Sergeant Leith Phillips said it is alleged that at approximately 9:20 am, a male prisoner within the maximum security section assaulted a 35-year-old Prison Officer.

“It appears that after becoming agitated, the male has thrown boiling water to the Prisoner Officer’s face and chest,” said Detective Sergeant Phillips.

“The 35-year-old was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital to receive treatment.”

Investigations are continuing.
