Arrests for unlawful entries - Alice Springs

Police

Police have arrested four teenagers following more unlawful entries in Alice Springs overnight.

Three businesses were broken into last night between 11pm and 3am, including Club Eastside, the former Lane Restaurant and Town and Country  Tavern.

The Lane and the Town and Country are both in the Todd Mall.

Detective Trent Abbott said the four teens arrested overnight were captured on CCTV footage after a break-in at the Town and Country Tavern just after 3am.

“Staff in Darwin monitoring  CCTV cameras in Alice Springs reported a break-in at the Town and Country Tavern after offenders smashed a window to gain entry,” Det Sgt Abbott said.

“ The CCTV camera showed a number of youths hanging around the outdoor bistro area before smashing the front window and gaining entry to the premises. They were then seen leaving with a quantity of alcohol. Members attended and arrested four youths matching the descriptions given to us by the CCTV operator.”

Det Sgt Abbott said the youths, aged between 14 and 17,  were yet to be interviewed.

“These arrests certainly show the benefit of CCTV cameras in assisting police to apprehend offenders.”

Police also received reports of a quantity of alcohol stolen from the former Lane premises in the Todd Mall and Club Eastside on Undoolya Road.

“In both cases alcohol was stolen after entry to the premises was forced.”

Police  also received two further reports of unlawful entries of residences during daylight hours.

“Homes in Battarbee Street and Baker Court were broken into during daylight hours yesterday. In both cases thieves made off with money, jewellery and electrical items. Once again we are urging the public to report any suspicious activity by phoning 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
