Arrests for assault police – Alice Springs

Five people were arrested following a large disturbance at an Alice Springs town camp on Saturday night.

Police were called to a disturbance at Ilparpa Camp just after 11.30pm. When they arrived they were confronted by a group of up to 20 people who were arguing and fighting.

Two police officers were set upon by some of the group and during the attack one of the police officers was crash tackled into a brick wall and hit with a chair. Another police officer was also punched numerous times.

When police reinforcements arrived they found one of the offenders armed with an axe. The man was disarmed by a family member before being arrested by police. Four other offenders were also taken into custody.

A 17-year-old female was charged with assault police, being armed with an offensive weapon and taking part in riotous behaviour. She has been bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court at a later date.

Three males aged 17, 21 and 22 have been charged with numerous offences in relation to the incident and have been bailed to face court next month.

A 16-year-old male youth who was also arrested was released without charge.
