Arrested for attempting to sell a stolen vehicle – Alice Springs

A 23-year male has been arrested trying to sell a stolen vehicle in both Ti Tree and Alice Springs today.

Senior Sergeant Dean Barrett said it is alleged that the male had been staying in Tennant Creek for the last three months before undertaking the drive to Alice Springs today.

“The man allegedly syphoned the fuel from two neighbouring vehicles and switched number plates early this morning before heading to Ti Tree in the stolen Landcruiser ute,” said Senior Sergeant Barrett.

“The man approached a male in the town and asked for $1,000 to get the vehicle off his hands quickly. Police were alerted to the incident and when he arrived in Alice Springs today, he was greeted and arrested by Alice Springs members.

The 23-year-old has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated enter a building with intent to commit an offence
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Stealing from a motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle with wrong number plates
  • Drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • Drive uninsured motor vehicle
  • Stealing.

He is to appear in the Alice Springs Court on Wednesday 19 October 2011.
