Arrest for unlawful entry – Alice Springs

Police

Three men aged between 20 and 31 have been arrested following an unlawful entry at the Red Ochre Grill on Todd Street.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Payne said that the speedy arrest was due to the quick response of Patrol Officers working in conjunction with a sharp eyed CCTV Operator.

“Although Police, Fire and Emergency Services staff have been kept extremely busy with the fires around Alice Springs, officers dedicated to policing the town have maintained their vigilance” said Assistant Commissioner Payne.

At approximately 1:40 am this morning, a Darwin based CCTV Operator witnessed approximately eight men breaking into the Todd Street restaurant and immediately notified Police.

They stole a number of bottles of wine and they, along with the wine, were located a short time later in and around the Todd River bed.

“Investigators found the use of CCTV footage, both in and outside of the restaurant, instrumental in being able to pursue and arrest the offenders so rapidly.”

Two of the men are to be charged with unlawful entry, unlawfully damage property and stealing.

Further investigations are continuing.
