A 26-year-old male remains in Police custody following an incident that occurred at approximately 9:00 pm last night in Winnellie.

It was reported to Police that an intoxicated male was walking along the Stuart Highway, near the Winnellie Post Office, threatening to damage passing vehicles with various weapons including a shovel.

It is alleged that he threatened at least three drivers and struck two vehicles before he was apprehended by two security guards and then taken into police custody.

Police urge any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 131 444 to assist with their enquiries.

The offender remains in custody and is likely to be charged later today.
