Armed Robbery - Winnellie

Police

Police are calling for public assistance after an armed robbery in Winnellie over night.

Members attended United Petroleum on the corner of Stuart Highway and Hook Road at about 12:30 am after receiving reports the business had been robbed. It is alleged an unknown male attended the front counter of the shop and requested a packet of cigarettes before threatening the attendant with a knife. The offender proceeded to jump onto the counter and instructed the 24-year-old male victim to empty the cash register into his bag. The victim complied and handed over an amount of cash before the offender jumped off the counter and fled the scene on foot.

The victim immediately alerted police to the incident.

The offender is described as:

Male in his early 30s, approximately 180cms tall, medium build, olive complexion with dark hair. He was wearing a white button up shirt with black stripes and light coloured jeans at the time of the incident.

Police immediately conducted patrols of the area and are currently at the scene conducting further enquiries.
