Armed robbery - Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating an incident in Alice Springs this afternoon in which a 16-year-old girl was threatened with a knife and robbed.

The girl told police she was walking near the Fresh in the Desert Store near the Civic Complex on Railway Terrace on her lunch break when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife before robbing her.

The girl said the man grabbed her by the arms and pushed her against a wall. He then took a 10cm knife from his jeans and threatened her with it. When he demanded money the girl gave him $20 and he walked off towards the Stuart Highway.

The offender is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 174 cm tall and about 40-years-old with a skinny build. He had unruly dark hair shot through with grey and a greying beard. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt, a red sleeveless vest and blue jeans.

Detectives investigating the incident are checking CCTV footage of the shopping centres and are calling on anyone who may have been in the area around 1pm or who may have seen a man matching the offender's description to come forward.

Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
