Alcohol and drug seizures – Nguiu

Police

Nguiu Police have arrested 13 people in relation to drug and alcohol offences over the Christmas and New Year period.

Between 21 December and 1 January Police conducted numerous searches throughout the community, locating and seizing the following items:


16 Litres of straight spirits, concealed in groceries and other containers
8 Bottles of Spirits
15 Cans of full strength Beer
28 grams of cannabis

A vehicle, trailer and a boat were also seized and believed to have been utilised for the trafficking of liquor from Darwin to Nguiu.

The 13 people have been placed before the courts for the following offences:

9 summonsed for Liquor offences
2 bailed for drug offences
1 charged with 0.123%
1 summonsed for traffic offences

1 Youth cautioned regarding Liquor offences

Acting Superintendent Brendan Muldoon of the Northern Operational Service Division said that it was a great result for the members involved.
"Hopefully this put a dampener on offender Christmas cheer. We will continue to conduct these types of searches and I hope that this sends a very clear message to all would-be offenders. Drug and alcohol related offences will not be tolerated by NT Police" he said.
