A 41-year-old man will appear in court following an incident in Alice Springs at the weekend in which a man was knocked unconscious.

Police received a report just after 1am on Sunday morning that a disturbance was taking place near the entrance of the Rock Bar in Todd Street. Witnesses told police that the offender allegedly had an altercation with two women during which he allegedly pushed one of them and caused her to fall. A bystander tried to intervene and was punched to the face. The 40-year-old male victim was knocked unconscious and taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment. Police were called and the alleged offender was arrested.

He was charged with two counts of assault and bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
