$15 000 Cannabis Bust Beswick

Police

Two women, aged 36 and 44, have been charged with drug offences after a quantity of cannabis was found in their home in Beswick Community, 100kms south-east of Katherine yesterday.

Taskforce Seeadler, made up of the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Dog Operations Unit, assisted Mataranka and Maranboy Police, when they seized approximately 300 grams of cannabis.

Drug detector dog Leo provided positive responses inside the house, locating 252 individual deal bags, as well as 28 grams of loose cannabis.

Both the women have been summonsed for the following offences;

·         Possess Cannabis - Trafficable Quantity

·         Unlawfully Supply Cannabis

A liquor infringement notice was also issued to a 24-year-old male occupant.

Acting Superintendent Clint Sims was impressed with the seizure and the work of Taskforce Seeadler.

“This seizure has an estimated street value of $15,000 if it was sold in the Beswick Community, and I am impressed that Taskforce Seeadler has hampered the supply of illicit drugs within this community.

“It is a timely reminder to those who wish to traffic drugs into remote communities – NT Police are watching you.”
