A 12 year-old youth has been arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a residence on McMillians Road and driving it to Stuart Park.

Detective Sergeant Rob James said Police were alerted to the car in the early hours of Thursday morning when a witness told them the boy looked too young to be driving.

“During preliminary investigations we believe the young man has driven through at least one red light so it is only good luck that has prevented him from harm or that he has not injured or killed an innocent member of the public.”

Police would like to remind the public that many crimes such as this one are opportunistic. The community is reminded to secure valuables, property and vehicles to prevent such opportunistic theft.
