Vehicles interfered with –Alice Springs

Police

Police are warning people to keep valuables out of sight in their cars after a rash of criminal damage and interfere with motor vehicle incidents overnight.

Police received seven reports of smashed windows in parked vehicles in Alice Springs.

Senior Sergeant Paula Dooley-McDonnell said there was no indication the incidents were connected as they occurred at various locations throughout the town.

"We received reports of vehicles being interfered with at various locations including the Gap, Gillen, Eastside, Araluen and the CBD," Sen Sgt Dooley-McDonnell said.

" In almost all cases a window was smashed to allow entry to the vehicle before thieves apparently grabbed whatever happened to be in the car. This included a coat in one instance and coins and an Ipod in two others.

"These are clearly opportunistic crimes and we would urge people to do everything they can to secure their vehicles and ensure there are no valuables left in plain sight. We would also urge anyone who sees any suspicious behaviour to report it to police immediately."

Anyone with information should phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
