Update Arrest – Smith Street Mall

A 22-year-old Roseberry man is expected to be charged with weapons offences after being arrested in the Smith Street Mall this afternoon.

Members of the public raised the alarm when the man was seen walking in the Mall just before 1.30pm with several knives, including a meat clever, in his possession. He was also drinking from a wine bottle.

After being refused service in the Victoria Hotel, security staff detained him until police arrived and took him into custody.

The man, who is now in the Darwin Watch House, is said to be in an intoxicated state and will be questioned when he sobers up

It's expected he will be charged with possession of a controlled weapon.
