Update #4 –Disturbance -Yuendumu

Seventeen people have been arrested in relation to disturbances in Yuendumu last week.

Six of these have been charged with numerous offences in relation to the incidents and bailed to appear in the Yuendumu Magistrates Court on October 12.

The 11 remaining offenders have been transported to Alice Springs where they were interviewed at the weekend and charged with a range of offences from assault and taking part in a riot to criminal damage. Eight of these have been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today while three others have been bailed to appear in court on October 21.

Acting Senior Sergeant Shaun Gill said those family members who were sheltering in the Yuendumu safe house chose to relocate to Alice Springs at the weekend.

"Police are continuing to mediate between the families involved and an additional police presence will remain in Yuendumu for the time being. A/Sen.Sgt Gill said.

"The travel warning which police issued last week at the height of the disturbances has now been lifted."
