Unlicensed Drink Driver - Darwin City

Police

At approximately 4 am this morning, Police observed the Ford Futura Sedan doing 90km/h in 50km zone. It is alleged that as Police attempted to apprehend the vehicle, he refused to stop, speeding off towards Cullen Bay and reaching speeds of 120km/h, at this time the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

Police located the abandoned vehicle whilst conducting patrols in Cullen Bay and apprehended the offender nearby after a foot pursuit. The man was breath tested and returned a positive reading of 0.112 percent.

"To drive unlicensed, drunk and at that speed though the centre of the city is dangerous and Police will continue to concentrate our efforts towards safe road user behaviour to eliminate risks such as these," said Supt Michael Murphy.

"Police urge all members of the public to remain vigilant and if they witness any suspected drink driving to contact them on 131 444," he said.
