A 25-year-old man was arrested last night after allegedly rear ending another vehicle on the Stuart Highway. Mataranka Police, Fire Emergency Response Group (FERGs) and local clinic staff attended a report that a vehicle travelling south toward Elliot had been rear ended by an unknown vehicle approximately 23kms south of Mataranka. The offender allegedly approached the second vehicle from behind at speed and rear-ended the vehicle, forcing it off the road. After coming to a stop on the opposite side of the road, the offender allegedly approached the driver and passenger of the second vehicle, verbally abusing them, then returned to his vehicle and locking himself in the back seat. On Police arrival, the offender refused to open the doors necessitating police to force entry to the vehicle in order for clinic staff to render first aid. The offender was conveyed back to Mataranka Police Station and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.166% Enquiries are continuing.
