Police received a report from a member of the public at approximately 01.30 am this morning of a white Ute driving erratically in the Yarrawonga area.

Police located the vehicle approximately an hour later near McKinnon road and attempted to apprehend the vehicle, however it failed to stop and a pursuit commenced on the Stuart Highway.

The driver led Police along the Stuart Highway, onto Vanderlin Drive and then into the Malak area, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police apprehended and arrested the man a short time later.

The offender was taken to Darwin Watch House and participated in a breath analysis which returned a medium range reading of 0.143% blood alcohol content.

The man was bailed to appear in a Darwin court on the following charges:

* Fail to obey the direction of a member of the Police force
* Drive with medium range blood alcohol content
* Drive without due care
