Traffic Blitz - Greater Darwin Rural Area

Police

Northern Territory Police apprehended ten people for drink driving offences last night during a traffic blitz in the Greater Darwin Rural Area.

The blitz saw in excess of twenty officers conducting patrols and random breath testing stations throughout Palmerston and the rural area, testing 331 drivers in total.

Two drivers blew high-range readings, with a 51-year-old man returning the highest reading during the blitz of 0.254 per cent.

Three people returned mid -range readings, while five drivers returned low-range readings.

Police also apprehended three people for driving whilst disqualified, and a further three for driving with vehicle defects.

Territory Duty Superintendent Robert Burgoyne said the results of the blitz are disappointing given the high number of deaths Palmerston and the rural area have suffered this year already.

"Unfortunately people continue to drive whilst intoxicated putting themselves and others at risk.

"Rural residents can expect further unannounced campaigns in the future," he said.
