Traffic Accident - Palmerston

Police

A 19-year-old Roseberry man has been taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for observation after a traffic accident in Palmerston this morning.

The man was driving a Suzuki Swift north along Chungwah Terrace just before 10am when a cement truck driven by a 74 year-old Howard Springs man pulled out in front of him after having stopped at the Give Way sign on Raffles Road.

The impact on the Suzuki's left side caused it to roll and come to rest on its roof on the median strip.

The driver managed to extricate himself from the wreck and was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance with cuts and bruises. His vehicle is reported to be a write off.

The cement truck driver escaped injury. However, the 74-year-old man has been issued with an infringement notice for driving on a public street with undue care.

Police diverted traffic around the scene while Fire and Rescue crews cleaned up.
