Three Motorcycle Accidents overnight

Police

Three serious crashes involving motor cycles were investigated yesterday evening and overnight.

As earlier reported, the first motorcycle accident occurred at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon and involved a 55 year-old Katherine man being thrown from his bike after he lost control whilst overtaking another vehicle.

The second incident occurred around 7.30pm on the Stuart Highway near Pinelands. Merging traffic appears to have caused the rider, another 55 year old man to lose control of his bike and crash. He suffered broken bones, cuts and bleeding.

The last crash which occurred involved a 17-year-old male who came off his trail bike while he was riding along Gunn Point Beach at about 2.30am this morning. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries and was subsequently transported by St Johns Ambulance unconscious to hospital in a critical condition.

Territory Duty Superintendent Nouvelle Reed said, "It is worth reminding all road users, especially motorcycle riders, to exercise due care and common sense at all times. Always wear a helmet, drive according to your ability and also the conditions at the time"
