Three arrested, vehicle seized - Maningrida

One man and two women have been arrested and a vehicle has been seized after police uncovered a quantity of cannabis and alcohol concealed within the panels of their vehicle late Saturday morning. Police stopped a vehicle of interest 35kms from Maningrida on the Oenpelli / Maningrida Road at approximately 11.00 am. A search of the vehicle uncovered 3 x taped packages hidden behind a rear passenger door skin. Further inspection of the packages revealed a quantity of cannabis plant material. The vehicle was further searched where members located a 1 x full 2 litre bottle containing white spirit alcohol. An additional 1125ml bottle of rum & 1 x 1 litre bottle of scotch was also detected behind panelling in the rear of the vehicle. All persons were arrested and charged for drug & liquor offences & conveyed back to Maningrida Police station. The vehicle, cannabis and alcohol was also seized by police. Further checks at Maningrida Police station identified that two of the offenders had outstanding warrants. A/Superintendent Steve Heyworth of the Northern Operational Service Division said "Police are continuing to see this type of drug running occurring throughout Arnhem Land. I believe this seizure is a significant disruption to the criminals who seek to make money from illegal activities in remote communities. We will continue to target criminals like this in the remote areas of the NT as a way to make the communities safer for all". The 130 grams of cannabis seized by police has a potential street value of approximately $13 000 in communities. The male driver is set to appear in court in Darwin today.
