Theft of Trailer and Motorcycle - Winnellie - charges

Members from Operation Exocet have arrested three adults in relation to the theft of a Trailer from Coconut Grove and Motorcycle from Winnellie that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is alleged that at about 12:30 am yesterday two males and a female drove to a commercial premises in Winnellie where they found a Honda CT200 motorcycle. One of the offenders cut a hole in the fence and wheeled the motorcycle from the yard hiding it in nearby bushes.

The group have driven to Coconut Grove and located a trailer in the yard of another commercial business. There the group have cut the fence and removed the trailer, hooking it up to their vehicle before returning to Winnellie and collecting the motorcycle.

Police Officers attached to Operation Exocet patrolling the Winnellie Industrial estate saw the vehicle and apprehended the occupants after a short pursuit when they attempted to flee on foot.

The three have been charged with numerous offences including:

Trespass on enclosed premises x 2
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle x 2
Criminal damage - preparing to commit crime x 2
Sergeant Jeff Mosel of the Youth Crime Unit said it was good work by patrolling members.

"Clearly this was a case of thieves helping themselves to an early Christmas present. My message to you is, festive season or not, NT Police are always around and should you break the law, we will find you" he said.

All of the offenders have been bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court on 13 January 2011.
