Police are investigating a spate of criminal damage incidents on taxis in Alice Springs last night.

Four taxi drivers reported to police that their vehicles were set upon by groups of youths in the Alice Springs CBD around midnight. The incidents occurred in Stott Terrace, Leichardt Terrace and Gap Road.

Two of the drivers received minor cuts as their windscreens and driver's side windows were smashed by youths wielding bottles and sticks. In one incident the driver reported his vehicle was damaged by a group of up to 15 young people.

Commander Anne-Marie Murphy said Police were interviewing witnesses and viewing CCTV footage of the CBD.

"These incidents are disgraceful and simply will not be tolerated," Commander Murphy said.

"Police have identified a number of suspects and our enquiries are ongoing, however, we are also appealing to anyone who may have information to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000."
